Located in the heart of Porthmadog, it is ideally situated for exploring the Snowdonia National Park. There are three comfortable bedrooms and from two of them, and the living room, you can watch the trains chugging past on the Welsh Highland Railway. Within walking distance is the busy high street, Stryd Fawr, with a great range of eateries and individual shops. Stroll along the high street to the harbour where you’ll see many boats at anchor. Next to the harbour is the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway station, where you can catch a steam train on the Ffestiniog Railway to Blaenau Ffestiniog, or on the Welsh Highland Railway to the pretty village of Beddgelert, which is great for an afternoon stroll by the river. Blaenau Ffestiniog is fast becoming the adventure capital of North Wales, with Zip World, the world’s largest zip wire zone, Bounce Below, where you can bounce on trampolines and zoom down slides deep underground in an old slate cavern, and the Antur Stiniog downhill mountain bike trails. Caernarfon with its famous Edward I castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is also well worth a visit. Closer to home is Portmeirion, the fascinating Italianate village designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, the pretty seaside village of Borth-y-Gest and the endless sandy beach of Black Rock Sands at nearby Morfa Bychan. If its mountains you’re looking for, you are close to Snowdon itself. You can catch a train on the mountain railway from Llanberis, or if you’re after a more peaceful exploration, take a drive on the sleepy Llyn Peninsula to Aberdaron and see the charming National Trust property of Plas yn Rhiw. To the south of Porthmadog you’ll find Harlech, another Edward I castle, the sand dunes and beaches of Cardigan Bay and the vibrant seaside town of Barmouth. Beach 1½ miles.
